CD 148: A Tribute to Geriant Jones 1917-1998 Historic BBC &
HMV Recordings 1949-1955
Performed on the historic
organs at Amorbach Ottobeuren & Steinkirchen
Recordings issued for the first time on CD
Geraint Jones himself spent
many days auditioning material for this CD and made the selection
of the programme. He was very much involved in the production
of this CD up to a few days before he died on 3rd May 1998 aged
80, one week before this CD was due to go for production. These
recordings made by
E.M.I. and his B.B.C.
radio broadcasts made during the 1950s and 1960s were the first
to awaken British ears to the true sound of the classical organ
and had a great influence on organ design in this country. This
CD now stands as a tribute to his musicianship and insight.
